Lecture 2 Process + Context

Notes

  • Context for use, contexts of use
  • Context for use, contexts of use

Process

  • Invent (Error > Idea)
  • Design (Metaphor > Scenario)
  • Engineer ( Task > Model > representation stage then interaction on manipulation)
  • Why? How? What? Post it notes
  • Precedent research – observe people, ask questions based on observations and test prototypes

Context

  • What people are trying to do
  • How they may try to do it
  • What gets in the way or helps
  • Where they might be doing it
  • What is the situation? Setting or environment where the interface/device will be used, public/private, conducive?
  • Who will be using it? One person or multiple? How long will it be used? Focus/interrupted?
  • Does it need to be simple?
  • Persons goals and needs? What do they need to accomplish?

Summary:

Interactive Design requires many simple and complex questions for the process and context for the device or program you are producing. You need to understand the steps of process, why how and what and complete research through thorough testing of individuals. You also need to understand the context; what how, what, where.

Reflection:

Through this lecture pod I was able to learn of the importance of process and context within interactive design and what content I should be investing further research into to prepare myself for future projects as well as the research project I am working on currently, about toast. Situational context was the topic that stood the most out of this lecture pod, as it showed the importance of designing for different means and forms.
